Welcome to the 10th Anniversary HerringFest, happening March 5-7, 2026 on Hornby Island. 

Sea Life Viewing Boat Tours by donation are happening on various dates from March 5 – 10 and can be booked by email request (only) at chiboattrips@gmail.com.

HerringFest Opening Night begins with an intergenerational performance at the Community Hall, leading into the Gala opening of the community fundraiser Art Show at the Hornby Arts Centre with live music and bar.  

Film Night on Friday features Clayoquot Action’s documentary Salmon Secrets, with live Q&A with the filmmakers. 

Saturday March 7th, the pinnacle of the Fest events, opens with Herring School – come and see presentations from a diverse array of herring protectors including W ̱ IĆKINEM Eric Pelkey, W̱SÁNEĆ Hereditary Chief, Author and Activist Briony Penn, and more. 

And of course, the grand finale of HerringFest is the much loved Herring Ball – celebration, dance and music sustain us for the long, long road we walk to protect and restore this critical keystone species of the Salish Sea.  

A portion of proceeds from this 10th Anniversary HerringFest will support the W̱SÁNEĆ Hereditary Chiefs’ legal proceedings towards a moratorium on commercial herring fishery in this region.
